DON'T THINK PELVIC ORGAN PROLAPSE IS "NORMAL" AFTER CHILDBIRTH OR AS YOU GROW OLDER!
“For years, she lived with the sensation of a bulge protruding from her vaginal area. Walking became difficult, and she experienced urine leakage whenever she coughed, laughed, or lifted heavy objects. She believed it was simply an inevitable consequence of childbirth and aging, so she silently endured it..."
This was the story of a 60 year-old woman who sought care at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Tam Tri Nha Trang General Hospital.
Following a thorough examination, doctors diagnosed her with:
- Grade III cystocele (bladder prolapse)
- Grade IV uterine prolapse
- Grade II rectocele (rectal prolapse)
- Urinary incontinence associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus
What may surprise many people is that she had given birth only twice. However, pregnancy, childbirth, years of physically demanding work, and the natural aging process after menopause had gradually weakened her pelvic floor support, eventually leading to severe pelvic organ prolapse.
The Obstetrics and Gynecology team performed a Crossen procedure combined with vaginal hysterectomy and pelvic floor reconstruction to restore the prolapsed organs. Following surgery, the prolapse was successfully corrected, her urinary incontinence improved significantly, and she was able to return to her normal daily activities.
???? Our message to every woman is:
Do not accept these changes as something you simply have to live with.
❌ A bulge protruding from the vaginal area.
❌ Urine leakage or loss of bladder control.
❌ A feeling of heaviness or pressure in the pelvic floor.
❌ Difficulty walking or carrying out daily activities because of the prolapse.
These are all potential signs of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) - a condition that can be treated effectively, especially when diagnosed early.
If you or someone you love is experiencing any of these symptoms, don't hesitate to talk to a doctor. Early evaluation and treatment can not only address the condition but also restore confidence, comfort, and a better quality of life.
