COORDINATED CARE ACROSS FIVE SPECIALTIES – SUCCESSFUL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OF A HIGH-RISK OBSTETRIC CASE

At 6:00 PM on October 11, Tam Tri Nha Trang General Hospital received and provided emergency care for a second-time pregnant woman at 36 weeks and 4 days of gestation, with a previous cesarean section scar, complete placenta previa, and heavy bleeding. Notably, the patient had O Rh-negative blood, making emergency preparation and management particularly urgent and requiring precise coordination.

Faced with this complex obstetric emergency, the teams from Obstetrics, Anesthesiology and Critical Care, Laboratory Medicine, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Neonatology worked closely together, coordinating every step, from obstetric management and anesthesia preparation to laboratory testing and blood product preparation, while ensuring readiness to receive and care for the newborn immediately after delivery.

Given the complexity of the case, each specialty played an essential role in the treatment process. Seamless coordination, accurate assessment of the patient's condition, and timely clinical decision-making were key factors contributing to the successful management of this emergency.

As a result, the baby was delivered in good health, weighing 2,800 grams. Both mother and baby are now in stable condition.

The success of this case lies not only in the surgical outcome but also in demonstrating the clinical expertise and multidisciplinary coordination capabilities of Tam Tri Nha Trang General Hospital. From the teams directly involved in the surgery to the supporting departments and postpartum care teams, everyone worked toward a common goal: providing timely intervention and ensuring the safety of both mother and baby in a high-risk situation.

This case also highlights the importance of the hospital's multidisciplinary care model, in which the expertise of each specialty is integrated into a coordinated care pathway, enabling the hospital to respond effectively to complex emergency situations.
