“When I was admitted, I still had to use a wheelchair and couldn’t move… but now the pain is gone, and I can walk again!”– the joyful smile of Ms. T (42) after surgery was a truly special moment in her recovery journey.

When she visited Tâm Trí Nha Trang General Hospital, Ms. T underwent a clinical examination and lumbar spine MRI. The results showed L4–L5 lumbar spinal stenosis caused by a central disc herniation combined with ligamentum flavum hypertrophy, resulting in significant compression of the neural structures.

Prior to admission, Ms. T had undergone prolonged medical treatment, but her pain did not improve. As the pain progressively radiated down both legs, accompanied by numbness and increasing difficulty walking—even becoming unable to move independently—she decided to seek medical attention at Tâm Trí Nha Trang General Hospital.

Given the severe degree of nerve compression, the medical team performed Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy (UBE) surgery to decompress the affected neural structures.

Just 24 hours after surgery, the patient showed significant improvement: her pain had subsided, the numbness in both legs had markedly decreased, and she was able to stand and walk independently. She is currently continuing physical therapy and rehabilitation.

Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy (UBE) is a minimally invasive spinal surgery technique that helps minimize muscle and soft-tissue damage compared with conventional open surgery. This may help reduce postoperative pain, facilitate early mobilization and rehabilitation, and shorten recovery time after surgery.
