SUCCESSFUL SURGICAL REPAIR OF CONGENITAL HYPOSPADIAS IN AN 11-YEAR-OLD BOY
Recently, the Department of Surgery at Tam Tri Nha Trang General Hospital successfully treated an 11-year-old boy diagnosed with congenital hypospadias. Following a thorough clinical examination and necessary diagnostic tests, the medical team confirmed the diagnosis and recommended a single-stage hypospadias repair.
During the procedure, the surgical team performed penile straightening and urethroplasty to reconstruct the urethra and restore the urinary opening to a more anatomically appropriate position. The surgery was completed successfully, with both functional and cosmetic outcomes taken into careful consideration.
Hypospadias is a congenital anatomical abnormality in boys in which the urethral opening (meatus) is located on the underside of the penis rather than at the tip of the glans. It may also be associated with penile curvature (chordee). Although hypospadias is not life-threatening, it can affect urination and, depending on its severity, may have functional and psychosocial implications later in life.
Six days after surgery, the urethral catheter was removed. The patient was able to urinate normally through the reconstructed urethral opening, the surgical wound was healing well, and he was discharged in stable condition.
Early diagnosis and appropriate surgical treatment can help achieve good functional and cosmetic outcomes, reduce the risk of complications, and improve the child’s long-term quality of life.
