 SUCCESSFUL EMERGENCY SURGERY FOR GRADE IV SPLENIC RUPTURE FOLLOWING A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

A 48-year-old patient with blunt abdominal trauma and Grade IV splenic rupture following a traffic accident was successfully treated with emergency surgery by the medical team at Tam Tri Nha Trang General Hospital.

The patient was admitted with severe abdominal pain. Abdominal ultrasound, CT imaging, and laboratory tests revealed a large amount of intraperitoneal fluid, consistent with Grade IV splenic injury, with a risk of ongoing internal bleeding. Emergency surgery was indicated.

During surgery, the medical team identified a complex splenic rupture, with approximately 2,500 mL of blood and blood clots in the abdominal cavity. A splenectomy was performed to control the bleeding. The patient also received blood and plasma transfusions to support hemodynamic stabilization and correct coagulation abnormalities.

Following surgery, the patient's condition stabilized, recovery progressed well, and the patient was discharged from the hospital.
