DO IVF BABIES HAVE TO BE DELIVERED BY C-SECTION?

Today, with the advancement of modern medicine, in vitro fertilization (IVF) has become a familiar assisted reproductive technology, helping many families fulfill their dream of having a baby.

At Tam Tri Nha Trang General Hospital, the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology is also accompanying many mothers with IVF pregnancies throughout their prenatal check-ups, pregnancy monitoring, and journey to welcoming their babies.

One question many mothers still wonder about is:

“If I’m pregnant through IVF, do I have to have a C-section?”

The answer is: Not necessarily.

Recently, the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology successfully delivered an IVF baby through vaginal birth.

IVF only differs in the journey of conceiving the baby. Once the pregnancy has been established and is developing normally, the decision between vaginal birth and C-section still depends on the mother’s health, the baby’s condition, and other obstetric factors.

If both mother and baby meet the necessary safety criteria, vaginal delivery can absolutely be an option. On the other hand, when there is an appropriate obstetric indication, doctors may recommend a C-section to ensure the safety of both mother and baby.

Therefore, mothers with IVF pregnancies do not need to assume that they will automatically have a C-section. What matters most is receiving regular prenatal care and having the health of both mother and baby carefully assessed at each stage, so that the most appropriate method of delivery can be chosen.

Every family may have a different journey to parenthood. But once their little one arrives, every mother shares the same wish: a healthy pregnancy and a safe delivery.
