ABNORMAL ABDOMINAL ENLARGEMENT BUT NO MEDICAL CHECK-UP: 20-YEAR-OLD WOMAN DIAGNOSED WITH TORSION OF A LARGE OVARIAN TUMOR

A 20-year-old female patient visited Tam Tri Nha Trang General Hospital after noticing that her abdominal circumference had been gradually and unusually increasing. Through clinical examination and diagnostic imaging, doctors detected a large ovarian tumor with torsion. Notably, the patient had not previously experienced obvious symptoms such as abdominal pain or menstrual irregularities.

Immediately after the torsion was detected, the surgical team promptly performed laparoscopic surgery to untwist the ovary and remove the tumor. The doctors were able to preserve the affected ovary, helping maintain the patient’s reproductive function.

This is also one of the important goals in treating ovarian conditions in young women: addressing the lesion while preserving as much healthy ovarian tissue and reproductive potential as possible, when clinically appropriate.
 

Ovarian tumors do not always cause obvious symptoms. Therefore, regular gynecological examinations and ultrasound play an important role in the early detection of ovarian abnormalities, especially when changes occur such as unusual abdominal enlargement, lower abdominal pain or pressure, menstrual irregularities, or persistent gynecological symptoms.
