As the weather enters the seasonal transition period, sudden changes in temperature can contribute to an increase in respiratory illnesses, particularly **Influenza A**.

At the **Department of Pediatrics – Tam Tri Nha Trang General Hospital**, the number of children visiting for respiratory illnesses and requiring hospitalization has been increasing, with a number of cases diagnosed with Influenza A.

**Influenza A** is an acute respiratory infection caused by Influenza A viruses, including strains such as H1N1, H5N5, and H7N9. The virus spreads mainly through respiratory droplets and secretions from an infected person's nose and throat when they cough or sneeze.

 **Common signs of Influenza A:**

* Fever, usually above 38°C
* Cough, runny nose, sore throat
* Headache, fatigue, muscle aches
* In young children: vomiting, poor feeding, increased fussiness or irritability

If not properly treated, Influenza A may lead to complications** such as pneumonia, otitis media, and respiratory failure. Complications can be particularly serious in young children, older adults, pregnant women, and people with underlying medical conditions.

How to prevent Influenza A effectively:

* Get the seasonal flu vaccine every year
* Wash hands regularly with soap and water; cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing
* Maintain daily nasal and throat hygiene with saline solution
* Keep the body warm and maintain a balanced, nutritious diet
* Seek medical attention when experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, or runny nose
* Limit close contact with people who are sick or suspected of having influenza

**Proactively vaccinating children according to the recommended schedule and age is an effective way to help prevent influenza.** The World Health Organization (WHO) and healthcare professionals recommend influenza vaccination for children **6 months of age and older**.
