RESPONSE TO WORLD STROKE DAY – OCTOBER 29, 2026
Stroke is a life-threatening medical emergency that occurs when blood supply to the brain is interrupted or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts. Early recognition and prompt emergency care significantly increase the chances of survival and minimize long-term disabilities. Every minute counts!
RECOGNIZE STROKE SIGNS WITH THE "BE FAST" RULE
B – Balance: Sudden loss of balance, dizziness, or difficulty walking.
E – Eyes: Sudden blurred vision, double vision, or vision loss.
F – Face: Facial drooping or uneven smile.
A – Arm: Sudden weakness or numbness in one arm or leg; difficulty raising both arms equally.
S – Speech: Slurred speech, trouble speaking, or difficulty understanding others.
T – Time: Call emergency services (115) immediately at the onset of any of these signs. Do not wait for symptoms to disappear.
WHAT TO DO WHEN A STROKE IS SUSPECTED?
Call 115 emergency services immediately and note the exact time symptoms first appeared.
Keep the patient safe, monitor their condition closely, and follow instructions from medical staff.
DO NOT give the patient food, drink, or medications, and DO NOT perform folk remedies such as coin rubbing (cạo gió) or pricking fingertips for blood release.
DO NOT wait for symptoms to self-resolve, even if the patient appears to be recovering.

PROACTIVELY PREVENT STROKE
Maintain a healthy lifestyle through a balanced diet, regular physical activity, effective management of blood pressure, blood sugar, and blood lipids, along with routine health checkups to reduce the risk of stroke.
